EDIT: HEY SKITTY, REDO THIS.
~Nyoko.
Welcome to Skitty and Nyoko's roleplaying board, based around the world we've invented for our characters to dwell in. This world is similar to our own in many aspects, however, it is inhabited mostly by animals that can walk on two legs. Magic exists here as well, and many fantastic creatures also live here.
The expanse of this World is enormous. No one has ever found boundaries to it or come back to where they've started. It is so large that the World is growing every day--each day new towns are discovered and new peoples met. For now, the most well-established towns are referred to as "The Known World." Although towns have been found that border it, they are often very far away and difficult to travel to. The Known World is the most basic area, the towns and cities that everyone knows about.
Technology here varies greatly. Some cities are very high-tech and capable of amazing feats of technology, while others exist in what we might know of as "the dark ages," while still others fill the gap of everything in between. The majority of cities and towns are roughly modern or sometimes medieval. It is rare for a city too much farther ahead or further behind that time period.
In such a wide world it should be no surprise that many areas are still completely wild. Vast wildernesses separate towns, making physical travel long and hard for those who do not possess magic of some sort. "Tickets" to take magical teleporters can be purchased so that people can travel between well-known cities instantly, however.
A few of the most well known cities and places:
Central City - This huge metropolis is the largest known city as well as the wealthiest one. It occupies the exact middle of the Known World. It has fairly advanced technology and is the center for culture. Most of the buildings in the middle of the city belong to very wealthy characters, while the outmost rim of the city is mostly slums.
Symphony - Central City's sister city. It focuses its development mostly on the arts. It is much smaller and overall much more poor then Central City, and is also more densely occupied. There are many apartments as opposed to the large mansions Central City has. It has similar technology however because it is only a few days' foot travel from Central City though.
Rainbow Resort - A slightly small city with a very cheesy name located near the edge of the Known World, along the coast of the Great Sea. It is a city that's entire purpose is to entertain, and has many exotic restaurants as well as fun things to do after dark. It has a huge beach area with vast, shallow seas surrounding it. Some of the water is so shallow one can touch the bottom even a mile away from the shore. It was named mostly for the vivid coral and wild fish that live there. Most of the occupants are sea creatures.
Icehart Village - A small village in the coldest reaches of the Icehart Mountains. It is pretty much the only outpost one can find there, and is a fairly grim place. Most of the occupants are Spiriters, living in the barren tundra to hone their discipline further. It is said to be a place people go to seek refuge from the world, because it is so far away from all the other civilized areas. The Spiriters themselves tend to be non-judgmental, often being refugees themselves.
Wicked Claw - A small town composed mostly of avian ninjas, hidden far away from civilization past mountains in a deep forest. All the houses there are high in the trees because their occupants can almost always fly. Not much is known about it, because its inhabitants rarely leave it and are completely self-sufficient.
New Hope - This small town is the reconstruction and relocation of Hope, a town that used to be even more wealthy then Central City. New Hope was built about 50 miles to the west of Hope, past the edge of the horrible blight that had destroyed it. Over time, however, the blight has expanded, and now even New Hope is just barely resisting it. The town has been almost completely encircled by the poison... and it is only a matter of time before they too will fall. Almost all of the inhabitants of New Hope are Spiriters, for only their power seems to slow the blight's reach.
Eternal Sands – Deep in the Viper’s Desert lies the small town of Eternal Sands. It is occupied almost exclusively by Desert Quetzals. It is rather mysterious because although they tolerate outsiders, the town is difficult to reach and very quiet. Many of their residents can live their whole lives without ever leaving it. The only reason anyone ever travels through Eternal Sands is to reach Eternal Sun, the Oasis Town.
Eternal Sun – Built around an Oasis, the last one at the edge of the Known World, this town could be said to be similar to the Egypt we know of. They are almost completely isolated because of how far from the rest of civilization they are, and thus are able to keep their customs intact.
High Pass Village – A small community in the heart of Roc Mountains. They serve as a refueling station for those traveling to the shore past the Mountains. Their main source of income is farming, and often ship goods as far as Symphony. Many hermits live in the area around High Pass as well, and the Village is their only source of outside contact.
Angel’s Fortress – Rumored by demons to be located in Icehart Mountains… though no one is even sure it exists. Whatever they’re planning there, it must be something big…
Serpent Swamp – A vile place of death and decay. This swampy forest is murky and smelly. Long ago, a tribe of snake people used to live here. A plague swept through and wiped them all out though, so now the only things that live here are dark creatures twisted with disease and death auras. Legend tells that the dark specter of one last Serpent haunts this place, bringing death to everyone he meets….
Roc Mountains – These are tall mountains located between Central City and the coast. Giant birds used to live here, hunting on the plain where Symphony is now located. Because their main food source is now gone, they are all but extinct however. The mountains themselves are high and chilly, however, they do not receive snow because of their proximity with the sea.
Swamp of Flowers – quite unlike Serpent Swamp, the Swamp of Flowers is thriving with life. Vividly colored flowers (yet poisonous) flowers fill the water and hang from the trees. Although it is a beautiful sight to behold, almost everything there possesses some sort of toxin. One must be careful not to accidentally ingest something toxic if they visit.
Icehart Mountains – The frozen wastelands and mountains of Icehart are one of the most unforgiving places in the Known World. Many have died there while hunting for the mysterious Ice Roc, a being said to be able to perform wonders. The only outpost here is Icehart Village, and other then that, it is a barren wasteland.
